You’re at a time of your life where your future matters more than ever. You have to build your resume, network, study, and do anything else to assure your success. We must try to reduce stress in college.
However, you still must take care of your mental health. We’re at a time when your mental health is at risk, and it can impact your day-to-day lifestyle.
Below there are 9 different stress-reducing strategies to always be your best self.
We know that it feels like perfecting your future is now or never. You want to grind and finish strong. Even when you’re going hard, you must give yourself a break.
You should prioritize at least one day of the week where you don’t do anything “productive”. Take time to do your leisure activities and enjoy your youth.
Believe it or not, our bodies are made to move. Working out, Yoga, Bike riding, and more could impact your mental health. There isn’t a limited way to get your body moving for positive reasons.
Not only are you working your body, but your mind as well. You’re relieving your body of the constant tension from your everyday life. Being active releases endorphins and lowers stress hormones.
Even robots need downtime. In college, we’re running on fumes to get everything done, from deadlines early classes, and other commitments. We have a lot on our plates.
Despite all this, you must prioritize your beauty rest. All functioning adults should get at least 7 hours of sleep to be 100% themselves. Not getting the proper hours of sleep forces our bodies to go into overdrive and causes unnecessary stress.
Ideally, we want to do everything we set our minds to. We want to be overachievers, but sometimes it’s just too much. We can’t do everything. A part of adulthood is understanding your limits.
Sometimes you may have to leave your favorite organization for a semester. Sometimes you may have to drop a class. It’s ok. It’s normal. Lastly, it’s being proactive, and you’ll thank yourself in the long run.
When you look good, you feel even better. Throughout your stressful moments, you may neglect the things that make you happy. Take the time to develop a skincare routine, book a hair appointment, or get a pedicure.
No matter what you’re going through, you should always ensure you’re doing what makes you happy.
At the end of every day, take some time out to journal. It could be impactful, whether it’s 10 minutes or even 1 hour. We become stressed due to an overload of information.
Using a time where you gather your thoughts and reflect on your day/week would make you feel much better. It’s also another strategy to keep things organized in your life.
No matter the weather, we should always step outside and enjoy nature. Play in the snow, picnic, or do your homework outside. Switching your environment to tranquil areas will positively affect your mental health.
It helps your brain escape the constant cycle and introduces you to something “new”.
Your diet has much to do with how your body reacts to things. Consuming too much alcohol, consuming too much sugar, and more. In the long run, these could harm your mental health as well.
You should take the time to eat better with fruit and vegetables. Make your diet as healthy as possible, and you’ll see its impact on your mental health.
Being stressed out and being burnt out is normal, especially at this time in your life. However, hiding from it and continuously worsening it is terrible in the long run.
Accepting that you are stressed out and taking precautions to ease your stress will always make you feel better.
