Ex-NFL Player, Adrian Robinson, Commits Suicide At 25

Adrian Robinson, the ex-NFL player who played on the Denver Broncos 2013 Superbowl team has died and the Philadelphia Medical Examiner confirms “that the manner of death in this case was suicide, the cause was hanging.”

According to Sports Illustrated, Robinson had recently signed a contract with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. His last NFL game was in 2013, with the Redskins, though his agency lists the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as his most recent affiliation.

Robinson played mostly on special teams. He was waived after the Broncos’ sixth game to make room for receiver Tavarres King, who was briefly promoted from the Broncos’ practice squad.

Robinson’s last message on his Twitter account – which has a photo of him in his Broncos uniform No. 57, exchanging “fives” with defensive teammate Shaun Phillips, was posted on May 12. It read: “Summer and the laugh of my daughter make me believe in God.”

Prior to his brief stint in Washington, the late linebacker played for the San Diego Chargers, the Denver Broncos, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also a star athlete at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Temple head coach Matt Rhule mourned Robinson’s death in a statement posted to the team’s Twitter page late Sunday night.

“The Temple football program lost a friend, a brother, and a wonderful young man today,” Rhule said. “Adrian Robinson was one of the greatest competitors I ever had the pleasure of coaching and I know he was an even better teammate. I first met Adrian as an 18-year-old high school senior. I was so proud to see him back at Temple this spring finishing his degree and being a loving father to his new daughter.”
