#1 Tip In The Orientation Guide Is Plan Ahead

When you step foot on campus, you have to start meeting new friends. This will be important to establish relationships on campus with current students that you will spend the next four years.

College is where you can be surrounded by like-minded individuals with whom you may share the same goals. Making connections on campus before your arrival will also prepare you for what to expect during the school year.

College friends you make will be there to help you through this journey and in the professional world once you graduate. Don’t take these relationships lightly.

Before making your transition to campus, before high school graduation ends, be sure to save your money so that when you move, you are prepared for the start of the semester.

Depending on where you come from, the weather may vary. Keep in mind that weather patterns are different in other parts of the world. Check the weather by researching how the seasons work in your new city.

This will help when it comes to packing clothes to bring. Keep in mind not to bring your entire room back home. Overcrowding your dorm is very uncomfortable to live in. you don’t want to be overwhelmed with more than you need. Especially if you have a roommate.

Before your first day of school, be sure to get a glimpse of what walking to your classes would look like. Pre-planning your school day will help determine the amount of time between classes, prevent you from getting lost, and help you familiarize yourself with the campus.

Planning your route before your first day of class will ensure you make it to class on time. Remember to grab all school supplies, such as paper and pens, so that you are prepared to learn and be attentive during instruction.

Pack Smarter, Not Harder

Most people don’t think about packing smarter and not harder. So, we needed to include it in this orientation guide for you all. When you are packing to leave home to head to college, it would be helpful to utilize the freshman dorm checklist to ensure you have the basic necessities for your dorm. The university housing department usually sends this out weeks upon arrival.

You want to be as prepared as possible so that when you arrive, you can focus on getting settled and rested to make all of your orientation events. As a time saver, when you are packing your suitcases or boxes, organize them in the groups you plan to unpack.

Teamwork makes the dream work; remember that during this move-in process, you will need to organize a move-in team to easily move your belongings.

During orientation week, be sure to arrive early to get ahead of long lines and wait times. All students will be looking to resolve the same issues.

Researching Teachers

Brianna Vargas, a college student in Tallahassee, suggests that students should be careful and research their teachers before choosing them as instructors.

“If I could re-do freshman orientation, I would know more about the instructors that I chose for my courses instead of selecting what was available; some teachers are not concerned about your success, and I would have preferred to be more selective,” said Vargas.

According to Rate My Professor, they help over 4 million students per month. They provide research and reviews from students. This helps with making critical decisions regarding your educational choices. You’ll have information about your instructors before your first day of class.

As a tip, the key to college success is sitting in front of every class. This will help your instructor get familiar with your name and face. Brianna mentioned that this will help towards the end of the semester when you need them the most.

Orientation Guides Always Address Safety First

Here is a short list of ways to stay safe and aware when moving to a college campus:

  • When entering a new place, you must be aware of your surroundings and travel with a group.
  • Pay attention to the emergency light polls around campus to be familiar with their locations.
  • Introduce yourself to your campus law enforcement and visit their department.
  • Stay hydrated and bring good walking shoes because orientation consists of a lot of physical activity alongside a busy schedule.

What better information to add in an orientation guide than words of wisdom from a teacher. Orriell Williams, a schoolteacher, shares some advice that will surprise you upon graduation.

“Keep in mind what you went to college for to ensure you reach that goal. Everybody you start with you won’t finish with, so pay attention to your peers around you,” said Williams. “Move everything in before your family leave because you will be tired.”
