Police Investigate Claims Of Wendy Williams’ Husband Trying To Poison Her

Earlier this month, talk show host Wendy Williams, 54, filed for divorce from her husband, Kevin Hunter, after 21 years of marriage. Her personal rep issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “Thank you to everyone for respecting the family’s privacy during this time. Kevin is supportive of Wendy and they are working through this process together. No additional comment will be provided at this time.”

Many reports have been circling around the story that the reason for the divorce is that Kevin was having an ongoing affair with a woman he spent a substantial amount of money on, possibly even moving her into a house close to their own.

Now, PEOPLE and TMZ have released a report that there were claims that Hunter had been trying to poison Williams. It is not known whether it was a one-time thing or if he was trying to poison her slowly over time.

Officers paid a visit to her New Jersey home on Jan. 18 after a caller claimed Hunter was poisoning Williams. The call was made by someone who is said to have worked for Williams’ production company, Debmar-Mercury. The caller alleged Hunter, who was still an executive producer on “The Wendy Williams Show” at the time, was slipping something harmful to the talk show host and wanted authorities to check in on her. The caller refused to give contact information.

When the police arrived, Hunter answered the door and claimed Williams was recovering from a recent illness. Though police say Hunter was “hesitant” to let the police inside the house, he let them in, and they found Williams in her bed “with the blanket covering from neck to toe.”

Williams told the cops she was recovering from a broken shoulder. (On a December episode of The Wendy Williams Show, she had told viewers she’d fractured her right shoulder.

One of the officers requested Hunter leave the room so they could talk to Williams alone, but Hunter wouldn’t budge, claiming he wanted to stay by her side, per the police report. Williams told the officers she was recovering from a broken shoulder and joked she’s “very popular” when asked if there was truth to the tipster’s claim. When asked again, Williams became tearful and denied any wrongdoing by Hunter, the report states.

Hunter then said to the officers that there had never been any calls to their house over domestic…

violence complaints.

Hunter has since been ousted from “The Wendy Williams Show” as an executive producer and as her manager.

“An officer eventually asked her if there was any truth to the anonymous tip she was being poisoned, and Wendy responded with something like … ‘Well, I’m very popular.’ When the cop repeated the question, the report says she became tearful, but denied there was any truth to it,” reported TMZ.

No matter what may be going on in a relationship or marriage, that’s no excuse to try to poison someone. I don’t care who it is.

Our prayers are for Wendy as she still battles effects from Graves’ Disease. Get well, Wendy! Ok!
