Time Management Skills for College Strategies to Stay Organized & Productive

Table of Contents
time management

Being in college can get very busy, not having enough time for anyone or anything. Your schedule might get very full if you attend classes, study for tests, make friends, and take time to unwind and decompress. This article will provide time management advice for students if you frequently feel as though there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, have fun with your friends, and take some much-needed time for yourself.

Creating a calendar can help with not being surprised by incoming things that are due, such as papers or a test. Fill this calendar with all your upcoming events. Make sure to place this calendar on your phone, or somewhere you can see and be reminded of it daily. Your calendar should have your events like deadlines, exams, social events, and other time commitments well in advance so you can see what’s coming up. If digital calendars are more efficient, many options exist, such as Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, etc.

Mastering College Time Management

Use important tools that may work for you, just like your calendar and schedule. The tools you use to keep you organized should be the right fit for you. Most students use different tools that work better for them, such as planners, scheduling, notetaking, etc. Explore what’s best for you. Let’s talk about each tool. First, planners can help you keep track of long-term deadlines, such as important essay deadlines, upcoming exams, and appointments and meetings. Many students prefer planners. These may be your more organized students.

Must-Have Apps & Websites For Scheduling & Notetaking

Some different apps or websites can help. Some may even offer discounts for college students, such as Papier, which gives students a 20% discount, or other websites like Plum Paper. Scheduling is for those students whose plans are more jam-packed, and it’s hard for them to make time for other things. This can help them schedule things day by day to help them be more efficient with their time. They can use apps like Asana or Trello. Then there’s notetaking. Keeping track of everything from class to study sessions to errands can be difficult. Whether at your desk or on the go, keeping everything together can keep you organized. Websites and apps like Evernote or Notion can help with that.

Prioritizing What Matters Most

Prioritizing learning to plan what’s important and not too important at the moment can help manage your time. Sometimes, there is too much to do with too little time. In these instances, take just a few minutes to evaluate your priorities. Consider which deadlines are most urgent and how much energy you have. Don’t procrastinate on what’s important. If you can complete simple tasks first, try getting them out of the way before moving on to tasks requiring much focus. If you are struggling to schedule everything, consider what you can postpone or what you can simply say no to that will take up time for what’s important at the moment. In conclusion, managing your time can be very important, so take your time and create a schedule to help you overcome your lack of time management skills.
