Are Your Eating Utensils Making You Sick?

A bamboo plate and eating utensils

You use them every day, multiple times a day, probably without giving them a second thought. But it’s very important to know what the safest eating utensils are, for your own health and the health of your family.

What’s wrong with metal utensils?

Most of the utensils we eat with are metal and most likely from China. The problem is that these utensils could contain aluminum, lead, iron and other toxic metals.  Heavy metals like these can create a toxic environment in the body, leading to sickness and disease.

While utensils made from stainless steel are acceptable, according to most experts, a more highly-recommend material is…bamboo.

Bamboo?

Bamboo belongs to the family of grasses. You can usually find it in the tropical and subtropical climates.  The largest population of bamboo is in Southeast Asia, and also on various islands in the Pacific Ocean and India. There are also thousands of different species of bamboo in the Americas, Australia and Africa.

Bamboo is a great alternative to metal.  It is biodegradable, meaning it can be disposed of outside without causing harm to the environment.  Bamboo is also known for its resiliency, strength and good luck.

You can purchase bamboo utensils at your local health food market, Whole Foods, or online. Keep in mind that I am referring to bamboo, and not wooden, utensils.

I started using bamboo utensils at home and noticed a significant difference in the way my food tasted. Surprisingly, my digestion also improved greatly. Who would have thought that utensils could really do this?

Put it to the test and you will see what I am talking about!

Please note: if you choose to use metal utensils make sure that there are not any nicks, because this can migrate into foods in trace amounts.

Play it safe and put your health first!
