Your Baby’s Milestones At 3-6 Months

Mother with Baby

Just about every mom loves to mark her baby’s milestones. They are not only a great way to show your love for and pride in you beautiful new bundle, but are also often a good guide to chart how your baby is doing.

Of course, every baby develops at their own pace, but here are some general guidelines for what to expect from your baby at the 3-6 stage:

Your baby will cry less. You will actually be able to predict what your baby is crying for, which eliminates all of the confusion and frustration.

Your baby will be more mobile:

  • Your baby will start to roll, at around 4 months old. The baby should be
able to push up on its forearms and lift its head and chest at a 90
degree angle—if the baby leans left or right he or she will roll over!
  • If you place your baby in a standing position, you’ll start to notice
their strong legs, and that they will begin to support themselves.
  • It’s not common for babies to start full out crawling between 3-6 months of
age; however, it is normal for your baby to “commando” crawl.
  • “Commando” crawling is when your baby travels across the room by
dragging their miniature bodies by the arms on his or her belly.
  • You should notice that your baby is more playful and active—kicking, playing with its toes and fingers, etc.
  • Most books note that babies begin to sit at 6 months of age, but be careful
and watch your baby’s ability to stay grounded and whether or not the
baby keeps tipping over. If so, be sure to not leave the baby unattended
or unsupported until they get the hang of it.

Your baby will be more coordinated:

  • Your baby will be able to play with toys within their reach, and unfortunately, put more in its mouth.
  • By 6 months of age, the baby should be able to pass objects from hand to hand.
