All-Natural Ways to Repel Bugs and Soothe Bites This Summer

Table of Contents
bug bites

Summer brings out many things, like tiny denim shorts, ice cream, moisturized afros, and oh yeah, annoying little bugs. Mosquitoes and ants specifically are living with the belief that it is their time to shine. I live in northern Louisiana, the temperature has reached 90 degrees, and I’ve already been bitten multiple times. I’m over it. bug bites

However, the next few months don’t have to be ones of misery and scratching. In recent times, I’ve discovered that there are not only natural remedies for dealing with bug bites but even natural repellents that can prevent the issue from even coming up.

We at BlackDoctor want people to grab peace as often as they can, so without further adieu, here are some of our natural ways to deal with mosquitoes and ants.

1. Aloe vera

According to the Global Healing Center, the succulent Aloe vera is perfect for healing mosquito bites.

In addition to healing, it soothes the itching sensation that bites provide. I suggest using the actual plant’s gel because I believe healing that’s straight from the source is best.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is not only capable of keeping mosquitoes away (use it to wipe down cabinets and watch how instant results are). When it’s added to either oil or water, it can also treat ant bites. This works because of the oil’s anti-inflammatory properties. You should put water in a small spray bottle, add a few drops of tea tree oil and it has a similar effect as Off!

Due to the oil’s strength, it is key to remember to dilute the oil with either a carrier oil or water to avoid further skin issues.

3. Honey and ice

Honey and ice can also soothe bug bites. Raw, organic honey is antibacterial, meaning that it can help fight off infection-causing bacteria that would get in the bite, (especially after it’s been scratched).

All you have to do is put a dab of honey on the bite, wrap an ice cube in saran wrap, and gently massage the area with the cube. Your skin should feel less irritated in no time.

4. White vinegar

Ants absolutely detest the smell of white vinegar, plus it throws off their sense of direction.

To fix an ant issue in your home, simply make a solution that is half vinegar and half water, with a little bit of your preferred essential oil. Spray it near wherever the ants are getting in and watch them die out.

5. Cinnamon

This final recommendation may be a bit of a shocker. Cinnamon, yes the sweet spice that’s sitting in your cabinet, can keep mosquitoes away and can even kill mosquito eggs.

To reap the benefits of the spice, take a fourth of a teaspoon of cinnamon and add it to a bowl or cup of warm water. Sit it in an open space and let it do its work. Thank us later.

Have a great summer and remember that you don’t have to use harsh chemicals to keep your skin feeling good.
