5 Ways to Boost Your Immune System for Your Best Sickle Cell Health

The human immune system is a network throughout our body that fights off pathogens and microorganisms that invade us and make us sick.

Sickle cell patients, like the rest of us, need their immune system to be strong because, unlike the rest of us, their weaken immunity could be the beginning of a pain crisis.

In order to keep a strong immune system, there must be harmony and balance.  There are several things we all can do to achieve a healthy living strategy.

PROPER NUTRITION

Having a balanced diet made up of large amounts of fruits and vegetable, protein, following the Nutritional guideline plate for the proper amount of the essential is key to achieving a healthy, balanced diet.

EXERCISE

Regular movement of your body for at least 30 minutes a day will help get your heart rate up, keep you blood flowing and limit your aches and pains. Sickle cell patients, know your limit.  You don’t want to push yourself beyond your comfort level and take something that was meant to help into a problem.

LESS STRESS

Living stress free is probably an impossibility for anyone.  Stress happens in our lives unexpectedly.  What we can try to do is keep stress down.

Stress for a sickle cell patient trigger a serious pain crisis.  When you find yourself in a stressful situation, try meditation.  Mentally take yourself away from the situation and relax.  Try yoga. The movements of yoga have shown to stretch and relax your muscles.

GOOD SLEEP

Allowing yourself to get 7 – 8 hours of sleep will not only rest your body, but revitalize your mind. People don’t realize how a well-rested body will make the day a whole lot better.

HYDRATION

Drinking water cannot be over emphasized.  Water keeps all your internal parts lubricated.  Like oil in a car engine, water help organs function properly.

Keeping your health top of mind is essential for us all, but for sickle cell patients it is the most important thing you can do to enjoy less pain in your life.
