After reporting that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony member Krayzie Bone was hospitalized last month from coughing up large amounts of blood, words of concern and prayers began to flood in for the legendary rapper. From celebrities to everyday fans, everyone was praying for his recovery. And now it looks like he has pulled through the worst of it. On October 3rd, the rapper posted a positive update about his condition on Instagram, saying that he has “won the battle this time.”
“Just fought for life literally for 9 days straight,” the Cleveland native wrote in the caption of a photo from his hospital bed. “And I only won the battle this time because I know Jehovah God was with me every step of the way fighting for me. Never take life for granted enjoy it while… you have it! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers trust me I needed every last one of them – KB.”
Born Anthony Henderson, Krayzie checked himself into a Los Angeles hospital in late September. Doctors quickly discovered he had a bleeding artery in one of his lungs and he reportedly underwent an emergency surgery that was unsuccessful in stopping the bleeding. A few days later, he underwent a second procedure, which appears to have done the trick.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony manager Bobby Dee confirmed on September 25th to the Los Angeles Times, that Krayzie Bone was in the hospital, while a day prior, AllHipHop reported that a CAT scan had revealed the musician had a bleeding artery in his lung.
The outlet said that the scan came after Krayzie Bone had been coughing up blood. Following an operation, he was then put on a ventilator, per AllHipHop.
The induced coma was to aid in the rapper’s healing, according to a report from TMZ at the time. The outlet also reported that insiders had revealed Krayzie Bone’s blood vessel will need another surgery in order to be repaired.
All of this stemmed from Krazyie’s Sarcoidosis diagnosis years prior.
According to the American Lung Association, while the causes of sarcoidosis are not known, it is associated with increased immune system activity. This causes clusters of immune cells called granulomas to infiltrate your organs and lymph nodes. Sarcoidosis most commonly affects your lungs and lymph nodes, but it can affect any organ in your body. The symptoms of sarcoidosis vary depending on which organs are affected by the disease as well as its severity.
Sarcoidosis in the lungs is often separated into the “Scadding stages” based on the chest X-ray. There are five Scadding stages, Stage 0 through Stage 4. The stages use the location of the granulomas in the lungs and lymph nodes, to predict the chance of the disease resolving on its own, with lower stages being more likely to resolve or not need treatment. At each stage you can have serious symptoms.
Following Krayzie Bone’s hospitalization, fellow Bone Thugs member Layzie Bone shared a statement thanking fans for their support and asking for privacy. “Our family is facing the unexpected hospitalization of Krayzie Bone with strength, and your prayers are a beacon of hope,” he wrote at the time. “Soon, we’ll share an update, but for now, let us come together and keep our love and thoughts focused on his recovery.”
