Healthy Eating On A Budget: Tips For Eating Well In College

Table of Contents
eat well in college

Throughout college, we shift our focus between a variety of things; our grades, different organizations, networking, and more. However, we’re rarely (if ever) told to focus on our diet. I know it may seem hard to eat well in college now that food is getting so expensive, but it’s not impossible

Luckily, I have three tips to help you maintain a great diet despite being on a college budget

Eating In The Calorie Deficit

The calorie deficit is where a person consumes fewer calories than they burn through daily activities. It’s not food focus, but calorie focus.

When a person has a calorie deficit, their body begins to burn the stored fat for energy. It is a wonderful way to count your calories.

Calories that we gain from food are the main source of eating excessively. You can use apps that are made to track your daily calories/workout plans or more.

On the other hand, you can simply write down how many calories you eat in a day to ensure it’s in moderation.

Replacing Bad Items with Good Items

Eating healthier could simply be replacing foods with better options. You could take the initiative to switch all your refined items to whole-grain items.

For example, buying whole grain pasta over regular pasta. Even if you like to have snacks, you could switch your snacks to fruit or low-calorie snacks.

These simple cuts of processed foods could result in a positive change in your life.

Drinking Plenty Of Water

I know, I know. Very cliche! Trust me that water is the key to being healthy. Not only is drinking water essential to being healthy but the right amount of water. A lot of our health issues come from being dehydrated.

The typical human isn’t consuming the accurate amount of water to their body mass. Calculating your proper water intake is simple: take half your body weight and drink that number in ounces.

For example, if you weigh 140 pounds, divide that by 2. This will give you 70, which means you need 70 ounces of water.

In conclusion, eating healthy may seem out of reach for us. If we take these three simple steps, we will be on the road to success!
