Top 4 Dishes Men Wished Women Knew How To Cook

women should cook

Why do men love women who can cook? Why do they prefer them over women who can’t? Could the answer be much more simple than we think? YES!

In my opinion, it all boils down to (drumroll please): because we like to eat!

Yes, the cliché saying that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” is true. Definitely. Is it because a woman who can cook reminds them of their mom? Maybe. But at the core of all those truths lies something simpler — men love women who can cook because it means that their family will be taken care of.

To say that men are simple creatures surprises no one. Sometimes, we can be so simple, it may seem complicated. We can be very instinctual and simple in our thinking. Men are designed to protect and provide.

There’s actually an old joke that compares men with women. It goes a little something like this:

“HOW TO SEDUCE A WOMAN: compliment her, respect her, honor her, cuddle her, kiss her, caress her, love her, stroke her, tease her, comfort her, protect her, hug her, hold her, spend money on her, wine and dine her, buy things for her, listen to her, care for her, stand by her, support her, hold her, go to the ends of the Earth for her.

HOW TO SEDUCE A MAN: Show up naked. Bring food.” LOL

When it comes to our families (or future families), men want to make sure that our children have the basic necessities — food, water, shelter, etc. Oh, and love too. At an instinctual level, providing these things shows our love.

So with all that said, here are the top four dishes men said they wanted a woman to cook (*The men polled were a group of 100 Black men (ages 28-75) from all walks of life (professional, blue collar, married, single, etc.) All men were asked privately, one-on-one.)

4. Macaroni & Cheese / Spaghetti / Casserole (tied at 14% of the vote)

The number four spot was tied. Over one out of five men polled said that some type of pasta was a “basic dish women should know how to make.” Many men did recognize that not all macaroni and cheese is created equal, but some sort of effort should be made to master it.

It is also worth noting that men expressed the need for women to know at least ONE dish from their mother and/or grandmother. Some sort of dish that has been carried down from generation to generation. That dish would get more precedent than others.

3. Some Type Of Sandwich (19% of the vote)

Meatless Burgers Gain In Popularity

This is one of the meals that many men can agree on. The types of sandwiches or handheld meals men favored were; patty melt, cheeseburgers, turkey sandwiches, tacos, and roast beef sandwiches.

The ability of women to create a simple meal for men is something that men expressed as being important to them. Whether it’s during the day or late at night, a good, solid sandwich is welcome just about any time.

You may be asking, how do you mess up a sandwich? It’s easy:

  • not having enough meat
  • putting the wrong or not enough salad dressing
  • making it sloppy
  • making it seem like you didn’t care

2. Chicken (Fried or Baked) (29% of the vote)

Chicken is a strong second with nearly 30 percent of the overall vote. One man, Martin describes his love for chicken and the women who make it, “Chicken is essential for a woman to cook because it’s so versatile. You can bake it, fry it, sauté it, put it in a dish, etc. It’s gotta be one of your go-to dishes.”

Another man, Embril, 39, described his love for chicken another way. “I went to this woman’s house and she was all excited to cook for me, so I was like ‘cool’ I’ll come over for dinner and have her for dessert. But when she fried some chicken, it looked good on the inside, but it was nearly raw on the inside. I immediately spit it out. Needless to say, I never called her again.” While that may seem a little harsh, some men base their decision of whether or not a woman is fit for a long-term relationship on her ability to cook.

Here’s one delicious fried chicken recipe.

1. Meat & Potatoes (38%)

This one came in as a strong number-one choice. Men are men. It may sound lame or redundant, but manly men love some sort of meat and starch (potatoes being the number one choice).

When referring to the forms of meat, the choices that came in high were steak, meatloaf, and roast. As far as the potatoes, many men preferred roasted potatoes, but a handful of men chose baked potatoes and scallop potatoes as well.

Blame it on the primal nature of men, but as one man, Joe, described his love for this choice, “it’s something about a dead, big hunk of meat that has been killed for me to consume, that gets me going.”
