Q: Are there natural remedies to treat Peyronie’s disease?
A: Peyronie’s disease is a condition where scar tissue (plaque) builds up inside the penis, causing it to curve and can make erections painful. According to research, Peyronie’s disease affect s about 65,000 men each year- typically between the ages of 40 and 70.
Typically, a urologist will work with a man to recommend non-surgical treatment options or lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction. Below are a five possible natural treatments:

Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALC): an over the counter supplement derived from amino acids. Clinical trials have shown that ALC restores libido in males equal to testosterone with none of the significant side effects of testosterone. A small clinical study showed improvement of Peyronies disease patients taking ALC.
Hyperthermia (Heat Therapy) : Heat applied to the penis has worked, but the studies have been very small.
Gotu Kola: Gotu kola is an herb and comes in the form of capsule, tablet and ointment. This therapy has been known to present side effects of headache, upset stomach, dizziness and nausea in some patients.
Bromelain: Bromelain is recommended to take three times a day on an empty stomach to prevent Peyronie’s disease. There are some side effects associated with this treatment, including diarrhea and gastric discomfort.
Castor Oil: Castor oil can be applied directly to soften the hard tissues in the penis and in turn, provide relief from Peyronie’s disease, says the website Home Remedies. Some people may be allergic to castor oil and not be aware.
