First things first, burnout is normal. It’s ok to be burnt out. However, you should allow yourself the space to recognize it, accept it, and learn how to prevent it from happening again.

Managing Your Workload

Yes, this is for you, Mr. or Ms. Do it all. College can be overwhelming, and the truth is you can’t do it all. Properly managing your workload could help prevent burnout.

Create a schedule that would give you time to work and unwind. This could include studying, socializing, self-care, or spending time with family and friends. One tip is taking things a week at a time to prevent being overwhelmed by preplanning many things.

Practice Self Care For Preventing College Burnout

Speaking of self-care, it’s very important. Taking care of yourself is essential for being the best version of yourself. Taking time out of the week to ensure you have some “Me time” will prevent burnout.

This could include some of your favorite activities that you enjoy—exercising, reading, or hanging out with your friends. This could be a time to utilize healthy styles of self-care like skincare, dental care, and healthcare.

Seek Support

We all need a safe haven to be fully vulnerable about anything. When you’re on the verge of burnout, you should always seek help. Don’t be afraid to get an extra helping hand if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Seeking help could be from anyone that’s trusted—a friend, family member, or counselor. Be sure to feel your emotions, but to release them. Don’t let this temporary feeling of burnout take over.

A pro tip is finding a support group. This allows you to be in a space with people who feel the same as you. You guys could help each other.

Set Realistic Goals

Setting unrealistic goals could lead to you feeling bad about yourself. You don’t want to give yourself a finish line that seems impossible. Give yourself some grace. Doing this will definitely lead to burnout in the end.

This doesn’t mean not challenge yourself; just be kind to yourself. Break your overall goal into something smaller to make your goals SMART.

Take Breaks

It’s important to take breaks throughout the day. Take the time to rest and recharge. This could go for the week as well. Every week should have time set aside to do whatever makes you happy.

Just like a few points mentioned above about “me time”. Take a short walk, meditate, or take a few deep breaths to reduce stress and increase focus. It is, furthermore, leading to a better you and you with more drive.

Get Enough Sleep To Prevent College Burnout

Last but definitely not least. Getting enough sleep. Sleep is essential for physical and mental health. No sleep could be a big factor in what makes you burn out. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

Establish a regular sleep schedule to help regulate your body’s natural sleep-wake schedule. Your body is tired and is telling you that it needs a break and rest. Your daily hours of sleep should be the top priority of all.
