skincare for men

When individuals think of skincare, they often associate this with women. A lot of advertisements for skincare feature women actresses. However, skincare is important for everyone, and the market should be more inclusive to men. Everyone needs to take care of their skin so that it looks healthy for longer. For men still perfecting their skincare routine, here are some helpful tips:

  1. Determine your skin type
  2. Read the ingredient labels of products
  3. Establish a routine
  4. Wear sunscreen

Determine Your Skin Type

Before establishing a skincare routine, it is essential to determine your skin type. This will influence the products you use. There are 5 different types: dry, oily, a combination of dry and oily, sensitive, and normal. Dry skin can result from cold weather, skin disease, or unbalanced hormones. It will appear dry and is subject to cracking.

Oily skin produces more oil than normal and has a shiny or greasy texture. Excessive oil can lead to clogged pores, which cause breakouts. Combination skin has symptoms of both dry and oily. Sensitive skin is easily thrown off balance, leading to excessive acne or dryness. Flare-ups can result from bad products, the weather, fabrics, touching, and more.

It can be hard to pinpoint what your skin is sensitive to if you have this type. People with normal skin have balanced hormones and healthy skin. Individuals may be able to determine their skin type at home with this information and more research or choose to see a professional. It is important to note that hormonal acne is unaffected by skin type and must be diagnosed.

Read Ingredient Labels

There are lots of brands and types of skin products in the market. To find what’s best for your skin, you must read the label’s ingredient list and possibly do additional research. Reading the labels on skin products will help determine what skin type the product will treat. Many companies specify this on their labels. Labels may also offer additional information, like how the product was tested, how to use it, and the results you should look for.

Reading the ingredient list offers different but very useful information as well. Many companies claim their products are good for us while containing ingredients that are actually detrimental to our health. The skincare industry is no stranger to this. Avoid products that contain these chemicals: Methylisothiazolinone, parabens, Formaldehyde, fragrance, mineral oil, and dyes. Search for apps in your app store that will break down product ingredients and rate the product for you. There are a few options available like the apps: “Yuka Food and Cosmetic Scanner “, “Think Dirty”, and “INCI Beauty “.

Establish A Routine

Consistency is key after determining your skin type and finding appropriate skin products! Skincare products, like most other hygiene and cosmetics products, are ineffective unless you use the product as often as recommended. Results are not visible until a month and a half at the earliest. Most dermatologists recommend a daily cleaner, toner, and moisturizer. This is the most basic and effective routine. If you or a specialist determine that your skin needs more support, you may investigate using serums, spot treatments, or other safe chemicals.

Wear Sunscreen

Many individuals underestimate the necessity of wearing sunscreen. Maintaining healthy skin without using sunscreen is impossible. Exposure to the sun without protection causes hyperpigmentation, rough skin, and premature wrinkling. The effects of long-term sun exposure can be seen almost immediately and worsen over time. Professionals recommend wearing sunscreen daily and reapplying throughout the day. Ensure the sunscreen has an SPF of 25 or higher for the best protection.
