Remembering Tina Turner: Legend Gone At 83

    Music legend Tina Turner passed away in May 2024 at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland according to a statement from her official Facebook page. She was 83 years old.

    “​It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,” the Facebook post said.

    According to her spokesperson, Benard Dohertythe Queen of Rock n Roll has been battling a long illness.

    “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” Dohetythe said.

    Anna Mae Bullock, who later adopted the stage name, Tina Turner, embarked on a music career after departing from her home state of Tennessee.

    During the 1960s, she became famous with her ex-husband Ike Turner and produced notable songs such as ‘River Deep, Mountain High’, and ‘Proud Mary.’

    Upon leaving her abusive relationship with Ike, Tina started a solo career in the 1980s.

    Among the chart-topping songs she has recorded are ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ and ‘Let’s Stay Together.’

    The life story of Turner was portrayed in the 1993 autobiography ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It,’ in which Angela Bassett played the legendary singer. 

    Celebrities have already expressed their condolences on social media.

    Singer Ciara tweeted, “Heaven has gained an angel. Rest in Paradise Tina Turner Thank you for the inspiration you gave us all.”

    NBA legend Magic Johnson shared “Rest in peace to one of my favorite artists of all time, the legendary queen of rock n’ roll Tina Turner. I’ve seen her many many times and hands down, she gave one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. She always gave you your moneys worth.” 

    Her legacy will continue to live on.
