Yolanda Adams at 60: “The Older I Get the More I’m At Peace”

yolanda adams

Award-winning gospel singer, record producer, actress, and radio host Yolanda Adams having more than a dozen studio albums, is celebrated as an accomplished singer all around the world. But many do not know that she’s also an accomplished advocate for health. By hosting health symposiums, conferences and community health awareness rallies, she not only speaks it but lives a healthy lifestyle too.

Her healthy and loving lifestyle was portrayed day after day for years on her syndicated radio program, The Yolanda Adams Morning Show, which she ran out of her native Houston, TX until 2018.

“I did (The Yolanda Adams Morning Show) as a result of having a conversation with Nancy Wilson,” the 60-year-old Adams said in an interview with Vibe Magazine. She said, ‘There will come a time, especially when [your daughter] Taylor gets older, that you will want to be home. So the best thing for you to do is something that you can use your radio/TV journalism degree in.’ And I thought about it, and I’m like, “Wow, you know what? You are so right!” So a great conversation with her and being built up by her resulted in the creation of (the decade-long show).”

“So, no, I never thought that I had been underappreciated or undervalued. I always knew that what I brought to the table – and CeCe (Winans) and I have this conversation often – there was never any competition between her and I, or Vicky Winans or all of the great women in gospel music at that time because we all had our niche.”

“The thing that I have always said is that in this vast universe that we live in, there is an audience for everyone, and then there’s an audience that’s being left out, that somebody else needs to capture. I don’t have to fight for what belongs to CeCe, I don’t have to fight for what belongs to Vicky, or what belongs to Tasha Cobb, or anybody like that, because God has so strategically given me the platform that I have, and my responsibility in that is to be the best Yolanda I can be.”

“Every cell of your body needs water. Three quarters of your brain needs water,” cautions the 57-year-old Adams. “So when you don’t drink water, your brain is dry and dehydrated. You’re wondering why you can’t remember stuff. If you’re not drinking enough water, it leads to a whole bunch of problems, including dementia and inflammation.”

“It has been proven scientifically that water intake has so much to do with your body.”

“Because my body had become so inflamed with the things that I’ve been eating including, linguine and clams, gluten and yeast. I want to live to be 105, alert, still walking around do what I do. No canes, no braces, no wheelchairs. healthy.”

“God has given everything on this planet to live. So why don’t you substitute the bad fats for leaner meats and…

…add in dark, leafy greens. If you have a sweet tooth, take chocolate that is at least 70% cocoa. Those things combat inflammation. And berries–strawberries, blueberries, etc. Things like apples, brown rice and oats that have natural fiber are great for you and keep you full.”

“We are fearfully and wonderfully made and God has given us everything we naturally need to feed ourselves and fuel ourselves. Those people in the bible who lived for a long time were eating what God told them to eat. So now that we have Jesus, we’ve got to get Jesus’ plan on eating.”
