5 Ways Stress Affects The Body & How To Manage

Stress, when not controlled, can have devastating effects on your body.

Hair Falls Out:

If you have been thinking you have been seeing things, you haven’t. Stress can actually stop your follicles from stimulating aka growing. I have personally seen this happen in my life and as a result, when things cause me stress it actually forces me to address them because I cannot be losing my edges.

Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, M.D. from The Mayo Clinic states stress can affect the hair in three different ways:

  • Telogen effluvium. In telogen effluvium (TEL-o-jun uh-FLOO-vee-um), significant stress pushes large numbers of hair follicles into a resting phase. Within a few months, affected hairs might fall out suddenly when simply combing or washing your hair.
  • Trichotillomania. Trichotillomania (trik-o-til-o-MAY-nee-uh) is an irresistible urge to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows or other areas of your body. Hair pulling can be a way of dealing with negative or uncomfortable feelings, such as stress, tension, loneliness, boredom or frustration.
  • Alopecia areata. A variety of factors are thought to cause alopecia areata (al-o-PEE-she-uh ar-e-A-tuh), possibly including severe stress. With alopecia areata, the body’s immune system attacks the hair follicles — causing hair loss.

Poor Immune System

Stress has been linked as thewith

gatekeeper for many immune issues that come on later in life. From high blood pressure to the trigger for so many immune issues, stress is something that can lead to serious health issues that have the potential to stay with you for the rest of your life.

You have to be conscious of what are your triggers and how they affect you. With the amount of information available we now know that your job, your boss, your family life and even the news can become a stress trigger for individuals.

Fibroids

Stress has been linked to an increase in growth in fibroids and endometrioses.

Lack of Sleep

When I am stressed lack of sleep is the first thing that occurs. I spend the night going over scenarios, thinking of what ifs, and trying to figure out how to fix the problem.

The issue is when I have a lack of sleep; I am not able towith

function to my 100% ability. Stress can have you doing the exact opposite of what you want to do, which solves the problem but in reality, it can leave you fatigued.

Improper Eating Habits

Humans deal with stress eating in one of two ways. Either you are not eating and have no appetite or you overeat or comfort eat. Both are unhealthy and can have longer-term effects on your body’s system. Both can become gateways to eating disorders and other deficiencies.
