A Checklist Of Healthcare Benefits Threatened Under Trump

African American woman with birth control pills

It’s 2017 – which really means there’s now three weeks before Donald Trump takes the presidential office.

With all the chatter about who’s going to be in his cabinet and, thus, what policies and benefits the Trump administration will do away with, it’s time for us to get our ducks in a row before inauguration day.

What I mean is: you may want to research how the Trump administration is going to inconvenience your daily life. This includes everything from birth control and women’s rights to overall healthcare and more.

Here is a breakdown of some of the health-related benefits and policies we may no longer have with Trump in office.

Birth Control/Abortion

So Donald Trump recently selected Rep. Tom Price to be his Secretary of Health and Human Services. In case you didn’t know, Price is a strong opponent of abortion. Planned Parenthood has given Price, an orthopedic surgeon from Georgia, a zero rating in the past.

But most importantly, Price has co-sponsored legislation in Congress that defines life as beginning at conception, which turns abortion into murder. He’s also fought against a law to protect women in Washington D.C. from discrimination at work based on birth control and abortion use.

If you’re not already on birth control, or insured to maintain your birth control, now is the time to do so.

Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

Republicans are already planning to repeal the Affordable Care Act early this year, perhaps allowing a few years before dreaming up a better replacement program.

In light of this news, Obamacare saw an enrollment increase of nearly 7 percent after the election.

Police Reform

With Blacks continually being targeted by police departments across the country, it’s important now more than ever to ensure justice is served on the federal level. But all of he hard work Attorney General Eric Holder has done under the Obama administration could dissolve, as well, once Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions assumes his role as Trump’s attorney general.

Voting records show that Sessions is against federal government’s involvement in policing. Meanwhile, Trump has been very vocal about being tough on crime and pro-police during his campaign. This tag team could prove fatal for Blacks under Trump’s four years in office.
