Everyone’s always talking about what you should eat/drink before you work out, but what about after your workout? 1. Chocolate milk

Featured on BlackDoctor

Research shows that chugging down a glass of chocolate milk can help replenish tired muscles. It contains twice the carbohydrates and protein than plain milk, water, and the majority of sports drinks. In addition to replacing sweat losses, chocolate milk also provides calcium and small amounts of sodium and sugar, which are necessary for the body to retain water and regain energy.

 2. Pineapple

Not only are pineapples beautiful to look at, they also make for a great post-workout snack because they’re high in bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory that heals bruises, sprains, and swelling. Who knew that pineapples could do so much?

3. Eggs

It shouldn’t be a surprise that eggs are on the list. Known for containing high levels of biotin (promotes healthy skin, hair, and nails), eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. And here’s another reason to love them: A single boiled egg contains 6 grams of protein – great for building muscle.

4. Orange juice

Most of us know by now that OJ is loaded with vitamin C, which helps to repair tissue. But did you know that it’s also high in potassium? Potassium is essential in helping the body restore its fluid levels following an intense workout.

 5. Hummus

You know that crash you normally experience after a workout? To avoid that feeling, try snacking on pita bread with a little hummus on the side. Because hummus is made from chickpeas, it’s rich in B vitamins and magnesium – giving you a boost of energy right when you need it.

6. Kefir

Kefir is a fermented milk and if you can get past the taste, which is on the tangy side, one cup delivers 11-14 grams of “complete proteins.” Dairy proteins can help you maintain lean muscle mass and lose weight faster.

7. Dried fruits and nuts

When all else fails, try munching on a handful of dried fruits and nuts. The dried fruit is high in simple carbohydrates while the nuts are a great source of protein.
