BlackDoctor.org & FDA Office Of Minority Health Partner For National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Twitter Chat

NBHAAD Twitter Chat 2017

On Tuesday, February 7, BlackDoctor.org (Twitter: @blackdoctor) and the FDA Office of Minority Health (Twitter: @FDAOMH) will partner for an informative Twitter chat, “Let’s Fight HIV/AIDS Together!” in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, 1 – 2 p.m. EST.

Using the theme, “I am my brother’s and sister’s keeper,” the chat will be a Q&A led by the FDA Office of Minority Health to raise awareness and reduce stigma about HIV in the Black community.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, African Americans accounted for 44 percent (19,540) of estimated new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. in 2014, yet we only comprise 12 percent of the national population.

Experts from each partnering organization will be featured subject matter experts during the chat, including Dr. Pete Miele of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Followers of the chat will be better informed to:

1. Get tested/know your status

2. Start an FDA-approved treatment regimen if you are HIV positive

3) Use a barrier method each time you engage in sexual activity

4) If you are in an HIV discordant relationship, talk to your doctor about PrEP

Follow the hashtag #NBHAAD before, during and after the chat and join the conversation.
