Remembering Bobbi Kristina: “I Have To Carry The Legacy On”

(Photo by Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images)

“I have to carry on the legacy,” Bobbi Kristina said proudly in 2014. “We’re going to do the singing thing– some acting, some dancing.”

But she never got that chance to keep the legacy going.

The family confirmed that in July 2015, Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, tragically passed away at the young age of 22. Her death came almost six months after she was found — in circumstances eerily similar to her mother’s death — unconscious in her bathtub on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 by her longtime partner Nick Gordon.

MUST READ: The Difference Between Bobbi Kristina Brain Dead Or In A Coma

Months later, Bobbi Kristina was placed in hospice care on Wednesday, June 24, after treatment in a medically induced coma. She was surrounded by family and friends at the time of her death.

Bobbi Kristina’s family has remained by her side throughout the entire time. After spending over two weeks in a coma, doctors performed a tracheotomy in February, to help stave off infection from her breathing tube while she continued to fight for her life.

“Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away surrounded by her family,” the Houston family issued in a statement. “She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”

The shocking loss comes more than three years after Houston herself died at age 48 in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel room on Feb. 11, 2012.

The autopsy report of Bobbi Kristina Brown showed that she died from lobar pneumonia.

The report, released on what would have been Brown’s 23rd birthday, said that the lobar pneumonia was due to her face being immersed “in water complicating mixed drug intoxication,” along with “Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy,” which is brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen.

“The underlying cause of death is the condition which starts the downhill course of events leading to death and in this case is the immersion associated with drug intoxication,” the statement from the Fulton County Medical Examiner said. “The pneumonia and encephalopathy are more immediate causes which resulted from the immersion and drug intoxication.”

The statement continues with, “marijuana, alcohol (ethanol), benzoylecgonine (a cocaine-related substance), benzodiazepines (medications used for sedation or to treat anxiety), and morphine” were found in her body. The autopsy added that, “It could not be determined from the toxicology tests whether the morphine resulted from heroin use.”

“She brings me a lot of joy,” Whitney Houston shared back in 1993. “She brings both Bobby and I a lot of joy. It’s a different thing when you become a mother. It changes your whole perspective on life. You really don’t live for you anymore. You’re living for your children.”

“God knows, I have been in front of millions and millions of people, and that has been incredible,” explained Houston. “To feel that ‘give-take’ thing. But, man, when I gave birth to her and when they put her in my arms, I thought: ‘This has got to be it. This is the ultimate.’ I haven’t experienced anything greater.”

Less than a month after her Houston’s death, Bobbi Kristina spoke with Oprah Winfrey about losing her mother, saying, “It comes in waves. One minute I could be laughing and happy, but then it will come over me. It’s my mom. I start crying, but then I hear her again, saying, ‘Come on, keep moving.'”

“I can hear her voice in spirit talking to me, ‘Keep talking to me. I got you,'” Bobbi said in an interview about a month after her mom’s death. “She’s always with me. I can always feel her. I can always feel her with me.”

She will be missed. Rest in peace, Bobbi Kristina.
