The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has been helping families get fit together with their signature program, Triple Play, and recently named their most fit family in the 5th Annual Triple Play Fit Family Challenge. “We call Triple Play a game plan for the mind, body and soul,” said Wayne Moss, Senior Director Sports, Fitness & Recreation for BGCA, in an interview with BlackDoctor.org.
The Triple Play Family Challenge is a nationwide, six-week annual contest that encourages families to learn about nutrition to eat healthier (mind), exercise together (body) and focus on what Moss calls social wellness, “that quality time that we spend together” (soul). The Fit Family Challenge allows families to focus on these three critical areas and to do it as a unit, Moss explained.
The Challenge, sponsored by Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Coca-Cola and the Anthem Foundation, began last October with hundreds of families competing and ended in January with five super fit families going head-to-head to win the title of most fit family.
“Living a healthy lifestyle is easier when we all encourage each other along the way,” said Heather Blair, a member of the winning Blair family. “We’re grateful to the Fit Family Challenge for helping us start this New Year healthy, happy and spending lots of quality time together to be fit!”

“Life-changing” is how Moss describes the impact the Triple Play Fit Family Challenge has had on the families involved. It’s also been life-changing for him, who has always believed in the power of play since he was a child. “I’m still playing and what’s gratifying now is having an opportunity to really help kids across the country and globally get fit, get active, and make a difference in their community and that’s an awesome honor.”
