Careful What You Eat!! (Q&A)

What is meant by the phrase “get the largest piece of chicken”?

Dr. Griggs: It symbolizes all of that food that we would eat in excess. What happens is the body only has a certain amount of food that it needs. And food is energy. Well, it’s a certain amount of food that the body actually needs to function. What happens to that extra energy? A lot of it is excreted or we get rid of it or it’s stored. How is it stored? It’s stored on the body as fat. It’s stored in the blood, blood bloodstream as cholesterol. What happens with all this extra luggage and energy laying around is what’s called inflammation. Inflammation all over the body. And inflammation manifests as pain. It manifests as organs and systems not being able to function as they normally would because things are swollen or there are things impeding the normal pathway.

What are some actual consequences of overeating?

Dr. Griggs: We have been conditioned. Every time you said a big piece of chicken, my mouth watered. I used to taste Popeyes or my grandma’s chicken, just thinking about chicken. It was that breast that I always wanted and my granddad always got. Overeating of course causes obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease, and gout as well as other things.

What is gout?

Dr. Griggs: It’s the buildup of uric acid crystals that form in your body. You can feel them in your joints. They can damage your kidneys and damage the body. If you wanna think of it in simple terms, the more food you put into your body, the more your body, the machines have to work to break it down. The more the machines have to work to break it down, the higher your blood pressure.
