Deion Sanders Undergoes Emergency Surgery Due to Blood Clot

Deion Sanders

The former football icon and current head coach of the Colorado football team, Deion Sanders, is having to undergo emergency surgery due to a blood clot in his legs.

In the video “Coach Prime Surgery Update” on the Well Off Media YouTube channel, Sanders revealed that he needs surgery to assist with the circulation of blood throughout his body.

“Now this is what happened. I went to the doctors the other day to check myself out and I have two clots in my leg. One in my right leg, one in my left leg in my thigh. Now I have a procedure tomorrow to try and get those clots so I can have proper blood flow through the leg so I can fix the toes,” Sanders said in the video.

Earlier this week, there were reports about Sanders’ possibly needing his foot amputated. The media went into a frenzy questioning the severity of his current health condition and what that could mean for his future as a football coach. However, he later cleared up that it would not be likely.

“There’s no talk of amputation or any of that whatsoever. The doctors were just telling me worst comes to worst, this was going to happen but I believe in staying right so you don’t have to go left,” Sanders stated in his video.

Sanders has been honest and transparent in regard to his health conditions and his family’s history of blood clots, particularly during his time as the head of the Jackson State football program.

He spoke openly about his medical journey in a documentary with Barstool Sports. As a result of the presence of blood clots in his toes, two of them had to be amputated and he had to miss three games during the 2022 season. He also was wheelchair-bound for the better part of 2021.

In the Barstool documentary, Sanders stated “The hardest thing of it all was to look down there and see that… And understand that once upon a time you were this type of athlete and you don’t even know if you’re going to walk because all you feel is pain and you just want to get out of this hospital.”

Sanders is still set to coach his first season with the Colorado Buffaloes football team during the 2023 fall football season. However, he has made a point that he plans to be on the sidelines this season, despite his recent health issues and new conditions.

“I ain’t going nowhere. I’m just trying to get all of this straight so when I walk that sideline, I can walk my walk because I’m going to talk my talk,” Sanders stated.

Needless to say, college football fans are eager for his return to football coaching the Colorado Buffalos following an explosive season with the Jackson State football team in 2022.

Although his health has remained top of mind for fans and analysts, others are still very eager to see how he will ensure his health will not get in his way during the 2023 football season.

His family and loved ones continue to remain by his side during this time. His girlfriend Tracey Edmonds shared on Instagram a selfie of her sitting by his hospital bed with the caption “I’m not leaving this spot until it’s time for #CoachPrime @deionsanders to walk up out of here which we hope will be very soon! Sending everyone LOVE! 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️.”
