Exploring The Caribbean: Trinidad Hot Spots

Trinidad is probably best known for Carnival. But Trinidad does have an amazing nightlife year-round. In the Caribbean music plays a very important role, Trinidad and Tobago is not to be forgotten in this musical history.

Soca music was originated in Trinidad and Tobago back in the 1970s. Soca is calypso music with an up-tempo beat. One of the other things the Caribbean is known for is Rum. Trinidad nightlife encompasses all of these things and in recent years carnival fetes are day parties so you will have plenty of time in the evening to enjoy yourself.

St. James is an area in Trinidad where there are a lot of bars, clubs, and restaurants.

D Avenue which is also known as Ariapita Avenue is a mix of bars, pubs, and clubs, in Woodbrook, is Port of Spain’s premier hang out spot. On Friday nights, hundreds of people fill up either side of the street to create an electric atmosphere as they go hopping from Latin music clubs to English style pubs.

Big Black Box is the place for live entertainment. Located just off Ariapita Avenue on Murray Street, the Big Black Box is home to legendary rapso group 3Canal, who host live acts, plays, spoken word poetry and much more. It’s the place to catch the cutting edge, up-and-coming local talent.

51 Degrees Lounge is a popular party venue located on Cipriani Boulevard. You’ll need to dress to impress to gain entrance. Once you enter, you can enjoy the trendiest tunes from some of the top DJs in Port of Spain.

Nu Pub is where you will find the nation’s best Calypsonians when they are not performing during the Carnival season. Located on the corner of French Street and Ariapita Avenue, here you can revel in the sounds of classic kaiso, as well as enjoy karaoke or Latin dancing.
