5 Real Reasons To Stop Shaving Your Pubic Hair

Pubic hair removal has become extremely popular and has grown into a multi-million dollar business. In fact, a study of 25-40 year-olds in America found that 96% of females and 87% of males had either partially or completely removed pubic hair within the past month.

But shaving or waxing your hair down there is actually less healthy for you than keeping your pubic hair. Here are five ways that show you the power of pubic hair. Here’s why:

It’s More Sanitary

Pubic hair offers a natural barrier to keep things clean, to decrease contact with viruses and bacteria, and to protect the tender skin of the area from being abraded. Sure, now we wear clothes, but sometimes even clothes can irritate the skin there.

Some clinicians are finding that freshly shaved pubic areas and genitals are also more vulnerable to herpes infections due to the microscopic wounds being exposed to viruses carried by mouth or genitals. It follows that there may be vulnerability to the spread of other STIs as well.

It’s A Natural Lubricant

Pubic hair helps to control the moisture of the area by wicking it up and away from the skin. This decreases the chances of yeast infections and skin breakdown. Without it, you will notice that your sweat will have to be absorbed instead by your clothing. Rubbing of the skin can irritate and hair helps to decrease this problem.

It helps to protect your sensitive areas from redness caused by skin rubbing. This could also provide protection against possible irritation during intercourse. Pubic hair is like nature’s way of keeping things balanced.

It Regulates Your Body Temperature

Hair follicles help with sweating. There is a sebaceous gland on each hair follicle that releases oils onto the hair, which allows the oils to go up to the skin’s surface. When this oil evaporates it cools the skin because of its latent heat.

It Heightens Sensation

At the bottom of each little hair follicle, there is a nerve ending. When you brush across each hair, it sends a little sensation down the shaft to that nerve ending.

These are different from other nerve endings that we have on our skin for pressure and temperature. All of these sensations are registered together in the brain, the result being the feeling of light touch.

Pubic hair doesn’t keep you from feeling the skin underneath, which is stimulated with a firmer touch, so you can have both.

Shaving completely, however, reduces your sensations to just the nerves on the surface of the skin and you miss out on a wider range of stimulation.

Not to mention you can no longer enjoy when your partner might tug or even blow warm air across your bush.

Protection Against Genital Warts

If you shave your pubic hair, you are putting yourself at a higher risk of contracting genital warts.

Although pubic hair doesn’t completely prevent it, it helps avoid skin-on-skin contact with someone who may already have it. Genital warts are warts that are located near or on the genital areas.

In a female, that means on or near the vulva (the outside genital area), vagina, cervix, or anus.

In a male, that means near or on the penis, scrotum, or anus. Warts appear as bumps or growths. They can be flat or raised, single or many, small or large. They tend to be whitish or flesh-colored.

They are not always easy to see with the naked eye, and many times a person with genital warts doesn’t know that they’re there.

So the moral of the story? Let it all hang out, it’s good for you.
