Physical touch is one the most effective communicators of affection. 

Just like everyday human interaction, intimate communication is 10% content and 90% context. Simply put: the “how’s” and “why’s” of what we say to our significant other are more important than “what’s” when trying to make a connection.

The meaning transferred by saying, “I love you” with a tentative glance from across the room pales in comparison to the message communicated by gently cupping your partner’s lower back, pulling them in close, and saying the exact same thing. Identical words, completely different message. Trust is the message. Touch is the difference. 

After cohabitating for many years, some couples eventually find themselves losing the physical and sensual components of their relationship.

The affection dries up! Many couples don’t spend much time touching or showing physical love unless it’s in the bedroom. But remember, non-sexual physical touch is a very important factor in maintaining trust and a soft heart towards each other.

Light kisses on the forehead in the morning, holding hands in public, light caresses of the shoulders at dinner, frequent hugs; all these actions remind your partner of your affection and help to maintain the physical intimacy of your bond. 

Don’t save physical intimacy for sex. Use touch as a tool. In fact, if you want more sex, touch more in everyday settings
