Ice Cube’s Autistic Nephew Inspires Launch Of Limited Edition Clothing Line For Autism Speaks

Legendary rapper and actor Ice Cube set out to make it a “good day” and great two weeks for families impacted by autism. In partnership with social merchandising company Represent, Cube launched a limited edition “It Was A Good Day” apparel campaign, with proceeds from the campaign benefitting the non-profit organization, Autism Speaks.

“I’m proud to support the great work that Autism Speaks does, a cause that is so important to me,” said Ice Cube in a statement.

“I have an autistic nephew and it’s cool to see programs that’s dedicated to his well-being,” Cube said in a promotional video for Represent [below].

A mental condition, characterized by having difficulty communicating and forming relationships as well as using language and abstract concepts, autism affects an estimated 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

“My goal through this campaign is to not only help raise awareness but to also support this great organization’s efforts in promoting solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families,” Ice Cube explained.

Inspired by his classic 1993 song and day-in-the-life video, “It Was A Good Day,” the charity clothing line features tees, sweatshirts and tanks for men and women. The campaign ends at midnight on March 8.

In the past, Represent has partnered with former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kobe Bryant, Will Ferrell, Ronda Rousey, and Jennifer Lopez among others.

The campaign also marks the highly anticipated ninth annual World Autism Awareness Day – taking place on April 2 – during which supporters and organizations from across the globe will come together to raise awareness and voice their support for those affected by this disorder.

Today, Autism Speaks is “dedicated to advancing research into causes and better treatments for autism spectrum disorders and related conditions both through direct funding and collaboration; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorders; and working toward solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families across the spectrum and lifespan through advocacy and support,” their website states.
