Lupita’s Head-To-Toe Beauty Secrets

Lupita

Lupita Nyong’o has certainly left an impression on Hollywood early in her career. Starting off as a production assistant on several Hollywood films, Lupita was not only nominated for an Oscar for her first feature film role, but she also won the award. Moreover, People Magazine voted Nyong’o as the “Most Beautiful” in 2014. When asked how she felt about gracing the cover of the popular magazine, she responded with, “It was exciting and just a major, major compliment. I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen.”

Nyong’o, whose favorite compliments are when she is, “called beautiful with not one drop of makeup on” has shared her beauty regimens with Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, including a speedy makeup routine that she utilizes whenever she’s not on the red carpet.

Her hair (“Short Crop”): “I think African hair is like clay. You can mold it into whatever you want, but it’s also very easy for it to change shape during the day, so having an Afro pick [like Jäneke’s] [$28] on me at all times is paramount. I also use Miss Jessie’s Baby ButterCreme ($58), which loosens up my hair so I can pick it with the Afro comb. It’s best to use it when my hair is wet because the water softens my curl, so I use it after I shower and also before bed, which is a good time because at night your body is regenerating.”

Her scent: “My sense of smell is very key to the different chapters in my life. For example, I wore the same scent throughout awards season, and then I stopped as soon as it was over. I can’t tell you what it was—it’s a secret. At the moment I’m wearing Jouer Perfume Oil ($42). It’s a gardenia scent, not too overpowering. I don’t usually like florals, but this one is fresh and pleasant.”

Her nails: “A nail is a great place to have a bright color and add dynamism to your look. Right now I’m wearing Lancome’s Blue Marine Chic ($15). A soft pink nude polish is good too. It’s also very important for me to give my nails a break from polish every couple of days. I have very strong nails, but they need the sun.”

Her flawless skin: “Avocado oil is a big thing for me. I discovered it last year, and at first I was using it just on my body, but then I realized it works on my face, and my hair too, for that matter! It’s a one-stop shop. Especially in the wintertime, when my skin is drier, it really seeps in and leaves it nice and lush. You can get it in the health food store, next to the olive oil and vegetable oil. Lancôme’s Advanced Genifique Serum ($134) is also great, especially on long flights.”

Speedy makeup:  “Lancome’s Hypnose Mascara ($27.50) is nice because it has a curvy brush, so you can get it on in one or two swoops. Because I have dark skin, color on my cheeks often looks too pronounced, but Lancome’s Blush Subtil in Aplum gives me a healthy look without being conspicuous.”

Lupita Nyong’o is starring in Star Wars: The Awakening, set to be released on December 18, 2015. Check out the trailer below.
