Why Miguel Isn’t Interested In “Fast Food Marriage”

Miguel Pimente, known simply by his stage name Miguel, is a Grammy-winning recording artist,  singer, songwriter and producer. At 30, he is still unmarried. What!? He is still unmarried!? Calm down ladies, he has a long-time girlfriend, model Nazanin Mandi, of 10 years (going on 11). It’s been 10 years and he hasn’t proposed yet? Here’s the reason why the “Adore” singer hasn’t popped the question yet.

He is waiting for when the time is right. I know that notion has frustrated many of us women. But listen to what he has to say. “I think because of society and how people view everything, and how everything is just so run-of-the-mill and very–what is that called? Everything is like fast food. It’s just like fast food. ‘Okay, you wanna get married? Cool! Get married!’ ‘You wanna get divorced? Get divorced.’ There’s no thought or substance behind it,” Miguel said during an appearance on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning show. “I think the pressure comes from outside because people are like, ‘Why not?!”

MUST READ:  Wait! Before You Get Married…

Featured on BlackDoctor

If you rush to get married, you may not know what you’re getting yourself into. We’ve all heard that anywhere from 40% to half of the marriages in the United States end in divorce. According to the Huffington Post, after analyzing the New York Times Data Blog Upshot, that divorce rate actually only applied to marriages in the late 1970s and early 1980s and has been dropping ever since.

Even if that is true, marriages are not supposed end. Nobody marries to break up. One divorce is too many, right? But Miguel has been with his girlfriend or 10 years. How much more does he need to know her?!

Maybe it’s not about her at all.

“I think it’s more about working–thing is, you got to know who you are as a person, first of all. I think I’ve come so far as a man, and I’m just starting to feel solid, where I can be like, ‘You know what? I think I can hold this down legitimately.” Miguel is still young, coming into his own as a wholistic individual.

The Huffington Post also pointed out, “The fact that people are marrying later in life, resulting in more mature marriages, has helped matters, too. The median age for marriage in the 1950s was 23 for men and 20 for women. In 2004, it rose to 27 for men and 26 for women.”

Sometimes as women, we tend to feel the pressure of our biological clock ticking fast; if we want kids, we won’t have the opportunity forever. One of the most challenging, self-doubting situations in life is waiting for someone to commit when you are not 100% sure if you’ll have something to show for the wait. Everyone’s situation is different and everyone has to make the right choices for their circumstance and learn from the wrong ones.

Does Miguel and his “wild heart”get it right?
