Morris Chestnut Gives Black Doctors A New Voice On TV

Morris-Chestnut

Veteran handsome actor, Morris Chestnut has always been known to cause a little butterflies in women, but now with his new role, he’s trying to cure those butterflies and more as the role of a doctor. The new TV series, Rosewood, focuses on Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr (Chestnut), as a charming, talented and top Miami private pathologist who is able to read living and dead bodies, like a book. Although Dr. Rosewood is surrounded by death, he has a sunny outlook on life, which irks and annoys a female detective he’s always paired up with.

In the show, it’s revealed that Morris’ character is more obsessed with death that you think. His obsession with it comes from a place of making the most out of every breath since Dr. Beaumont had a few near death experiences when he was younger. Specifically, having a stroke at the young age of 11 and then another at the age of 21, Dr. Beaumont makes sure he lives life to the fullest and doesn’t want any of his patient’s deaths to go unsolved either.

As a pathologist, Morris had to learn a number of things in the medical world to be comfortable in his character. A pathologist is a physician who examines tissues, checks the accuracy of lab tests and interprets the results in order to facilitate the patient’s diagnosis and treatment.

Clinical pathology is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of…

… bodily fluids such as blood and urine, as well as tissues, using the tools of chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology and molecular pathology.

Chestnut most recently was a series regular on the first season of TNT’s action drama Legends. He will return as a guest star in several episodes of the second season of the show, which comes from 20th TV’s cable division Fox 21 TV Studios. Harthan and Shepard are executive producing the Fox pilot with Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen.

One of Morris’ best known quotes sums up what he’s trying to accomplish with this new role: “I want viewers to relate to me on a different level, not just a sexual level.”

Chestnut, who starred in Universal’s breakout The Best Man Holiday, is currently shooting the lead in the Sony Screen Gems feature When The Bough Breaks, directed by Jon Cassar.
