‘A Paradigm Shift’ Conference Addresses Impact Of HIV/AIDS On Black Women

The Sankofa Collaborative today announces registration is open for A Paradigm Shift: The Impact of HIV/AIDS on African American Women and Families. The conference will be held November 2-3, 2017, at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Registration is required, the conference is free to attend.

Paradigm Shift is an action-oriented, nationally focused, two-day event examining the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS on Black women and their families within the context of their environment, socialization, family expectations, relationships and economic realities.

The conference will include a dynamic selection of national leaders in addressing HIV/AIDS, historical trauma, mental health/wellness, social isolation, community engagement and policy. Keynote speakers include Gail Wyatt, PhD of the University of California at Los Angeles; Angela Rye, Esq. Principal and CEO of IMPACT, CNN Political Commentator and NPR Political Analyst; Cheryl Tawede Grills PhD, Clinical Psychologist Loyola Marymount University, Joy Degruy, Author and Speaker; and many more.

This event will highlight the urgent need to call attention to the persistent health disparities and HIV’s impact on Black women, particularly examining the inadequate level of funding and dedicated resources to combat this problem at the national, state and local levels.

The conference is sponsored by the Sankofa Collaborative, a robust collection of African American and Afro Latino focused organizations, advocates and research institutions including University of California at Los Angeles, Charles Drew University, Morehouse School of Medicine, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, World, Inc., The Bridget B.
