thomas_farrington_phen_symposium

The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) will partner with churches in 16 cities to host groundbreaking prostate health educational symposiums within African-American communities.

The host churches have a collective membership of more than 100,000 persons. In addition, the symposiums, which are free and open to the public, will outreach and attract attendees from throughout each city. The symposiums will address the need for increased knowledge and awareness within Black communities in their fight against a prostate cancer crisis existing throughout Black America. These educational events will take place at churches, on Saturday, June 14th in conjunction with PHEN’s “Sixth Annual Fathers Day Rally Against Prostate Cancer” on Sunday, June 15th.

“We are pleased with the momentum the Father’s Day Rally has gained in partnership with churches since 2009, and we are truly excited that church leaders are joining with PHEN for an enhanced educational outreach effort through the symposiums. Together we are undertaking the broadest education and awareness effort ever with a focus on Black America’s prostate cancer crisis,” said Thomas A. Farrington, PHEN president and founder who is a 14-year prostate cancer survivor.

The symposiums will address the needs of healthy men who are at high risk for prostate cancer, men newly diagnosed with the disease; caregivers; family members; and men with recurring or advanced stage prostate cancer. Each symposium will include presentations by prostate cancer medical experts, a survivor’s roundtable discussion, address the needs of caregivers and importantly, the pastor or another church leader will address the importance of faith in healing. A free networking lunch and resource materials will be provided for each attendee. Symposium registration is available online at www.rapcancer.org
