Lots of kids love summer camp!
They love the warm weather, fun activities and the opportunity to make friends from all kinds of places.
Unfortunately, some kids do come with their fair share of health problems, and may not always be able to get down and dirty like the rest of the kids for the sake of their health.
Sickle cell is a horrible disease that can cause a lot of suffering, and I’m sure it’s not any easier when you’re a young person just trying to enjoy your carefree years and do the most you can on those summer vacations away from school.
Good thing there are Sickle Cell Summer Camps!
According to the CDC, there are summer camps with children who have sickle cell.
While there are still fun and great activities like a usual summer camp, this one has healthcare professionals who are knowledgeable about the diseases on the premises at all times to ensure your child’s safety and wellbeing during their time away.
These kids have the opportunity to bond with kids who are going through the same thing, build community and build life-long relationships.
There are multiple testimonies on the camps and how helpful they have been to kids who are now adults, that had sickle cell and wanted a normal summer experience.
Due to COVID, many camps will be virtual this year or may be canceled until next year.
