The “Fab” 5 of Black Health and Wellness

What are the five health and wellness numbers you should know at all times? How “fab” are your five? The #dynamicduo of TFal & Chi tell you your five and how to improve them.

80% of the reasons for going to the doctor are driven by lifestyle. How do these conditions impact our quality of life?

CHI: In terms of the impact on our daily life,it’s all parts of your life including your pocketbook, the way you feel, move and think – all of  these conditions really, really play a huge role in your overall person. So if we are not doing the right things with our health, and I mean eating the right foods, because nutrition is the biggest part of our health. Nutrition is about 75% of who we are. Exercise is about 25%. So what you eat, what you put in your body literally will result in, if you eat well, you feeling good. You’re gonna have clarity and thinking, and you’re going to actually have hormones that actually allow you to be your best self.

Are there any health conditions that are reversible?

TFAL: There are a lot of things that are reversible. And so it’s important to know that even for someone who has diabetes, a diabetes with an A1C of 12 is different from an A1C of eight or seven. There are complications that are tied to controlling your diabetes. So even when you have a medical condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, there are things you can and should do with your nutrition and physical activity. And the last misconception I wanna bring up is sometimes we use say or use a lot of, I have a touch of this, or I have a little bit of that. And when we do that, we really underestimate the impact of making a difference. When people have pre-diabetes or stage one hypertension, they say, I have a little bit of sugar. I have a touch of sugar. When we do that, we’re not giving ourselves the opportunity to take things, our health,  back. So pre-diabetes means pre something, right? If you don’t do something at some point you will develop diabetes.

How does sleep affect our health?

TFAL: Sleep is when our body repairs and renews, you need to get seven to nine hours on average. It’s when your blood pressure is regulated. It is so important for our mental health. Sleep is something that has been underestimated as a vital part of our wellness. It’s restorative.
