Kermit Crawford is president of the pharmacy, health and wellness division for Walgreens, headquartered in Deerfield, Ill., where he is leading the advancement of community pharmacy to play a greater role in healthcare through integration and expanded services.
Crawford began his career with Walgreens as a pharmacy intern in 1983, shortly before his graduation from pharmacy school at Texas Southern University in Houston. Over the years, he has advanced through the ranks of the company, holding positions from pharmacist to store and district manager to vice president of store operations.
Kermit Crawford always knew he wanted to be a pharmacist. As a child, he says he looked up to the man who ran the corner drugstore and knew Crawford and his family by name. “He knew I was Harry Crawford’s son, and I grew up saying, ‘That’s who I want to be,’ ” said Crawford, whose childhood dream was to one day run a drugstore of his own.
More than a dream fulfilled, he’s changed Walgreens from prescription filler to an important entity in serving medically underserved communities.
