High School Classmates Come Together Over Loss Of Mom

At the end of the day, football is just a game. But students at one school learned about family.

High school student athlete Dandric Piolet, 17, Instagrammed a note Thursday night before the game, saying “Just letting this all sink in right now. Coming home and finding the woman who breaks her back and struggles day to day to take care of me dead.” Imagine having to be the one to find your mom home, dead, after losing her battle to cancer. Unthinkable.

Later, Piolet tweeted, “Everyone go home and let your mom know you love her she can be here today and gone the next I never even could think this would happen.”

Piolet’s mother, Latasha Polk Jame, was a mother of 5 sons including one attending college and her youngest being 12 years old. She had recently achieved her Master’s in Accounting after surviving a brain tumor removal two years ago & was looking forward to her new opportunites on the horizon. But her life was cut short Thursday before his big game, as Dandric found his mom’s body at home, lifeless, due to cancer.

Piolet insisted on going to school Friday and was showered by…

…love and support and even played in that night’s football game as a sign of love for his mother, who was a big supporter of the team.

A picture of classmates praying with him in the hallway as a show of support has been shared nearly 2,000 times on Twitter and over 100,000 times on facebook.

A teammate wrote Piolet’s jersey number and mother’s name, Tasha, on tape on his wrist, and fans from the opposing team Naaman Forest played Friday, the Garland Owls, painted Piolet’s number on their backs as a show of good sportsmanship for the game. Even the opposing team wrote and painted Piolet’s number on their faces and bodies as support.

Fans in the stands also held signs to support the Piolet family.
