Ice Cube: From Hip-Hop To Hollywood Heavyhitter

Ice Cube, born O’Shea Jackson Sr., is an American rapper and actor. He began his career as a member of the hip-hop group C.I.A. and later joined the seminal rap group N.W.A. But Ice Cube is also a fruitful businessperson. His few endeavors have earned him pretty hefty pockets. So, as of 2019, Net Worth of Ice Cube estimates $160 million USD.

So how did he amass all of this wealth?

In December 1989, Ice Cube set out to be effective in his solo career leaving the group ‘N.W.A,’ and releasing the 1990’s album ‘AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted‘ and 1991’s ‘Death Certificate.’ The two albums sold to platinum status in the US while classifying them as hip-hop classics.

In 1998 he founded the production company Cube Vision, whose first production was “Next Friday,” a sequel to “Friday.” Another sequel followed in 2002. A fourth, “Last Friday,” is in the works.

He made his directorial debut in 1998 with “The Players Club,” which he also wrote.

2002 marked the debut of “Barbershop,” a comedy also starring Cedric the Entertainer and Anthony Anderson. The cast returned for a sequel released in 2004, Barbershop 3″ in 2016, and the film series even led to a spin-off with Queen Latifah titled “Beauty Shop.”

As an Entrepreneur, and just like other pop stars in the music scene, Ice Cube has established his clothing business named, Solo by Cube, and additionally the 3 on 3 basketball group ‘BIG3,’ which predominately includes resigned NBA players.

Ice Cube ventured into the realm of family films with 2005’s “Are We There Yet?” The sequel “Are We Done Yet?” was released in 2007, and a show based on the series debuted in 2010. Ice Cube was even a recurring character on the show.

“Straight Outta Compton,” which earned $60 million at the box office during its opening weekend, was America’s #1 movie for the third weekend in a row, making it one of the biggest-ever August releases. Made for $29 million, the biopic of gangsta rap group N.W.A. crossed the $100 million ticket sales mark less than 10 days after its debut.

… eight teams to 12, BIG3 also has lined up two key sponsors in Adidas and Toyota, both of which will roll out activations throughout the upcoming season.

In a bid to grow the BIG3 basketball league, Cube is attempting to put together a $15 billion package to purchase Fox Regional Sports Networks. This includes Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket in Los Angeles, YES Network in New York, and other regional networks serving major markets.
